At the beginning of this day we had no idea we would end up with a pet, but after one animal release and another animal returned to the store, we finally made it home with Hermie the hermit crab. We started talking with Dylan about a pet a few days earlier. We decided that he could earn a pet (we were thinking Beta fish) after he showed us 9 days (he picked the number of days) of making good choices. We had only earned 1 sticker on our chart when we found out from Grandma and Grandpa that Dylan had caught a tree frog at their house. Long story short, he thought he was going to keep the tree frog, but I felt bad for it and I also didn't want to have to buy crickets for it to eat each week. We decide to release that frog and go to the pet store to buy one of those swimming frogs. Well, it turns out there has been a salmonella outbreak in these frogs so they aren't available =(. The guy at the pet store talked Bryan into a fire belly toad and said that he only eats pellets and can live in this small cage. Later we find out that fire belly toads eats crickets, croak really loud at night and need a 10 gallon take. The croaking at night and crickets put me over the edge so we decided to bring the toad back and find another pet. After a lot of tears and tough decisions Dylan was ready to bring Hermie home.

Here is Hermie in his home. We hope to upgrade his tank soon, but look at Dylan's beautiful sand choice =)

Another view of Hermie's tanks. We are hoping for many years with Hermie around!
